Life seems these days to be precariously short and filled with uncertainty. The one thing that I always remain constant on is of course my love of art or love of all things art as our mission statement says. Let’s face it – we love art here at ARABELLA.
With the health and disease issue of the last couple of months both art shows and art events are showing the strain. Cancellations and postponements are not a help for those of us looking for a visual treat and an adventure into the artist’s way of storytelling.
There is always a surge of art shows in the spring and artists prepare for these events throughout the long winter months. So what to do now that these events are cancelled, post-poned and rescheduled. For me this was the perfect solution – produce a digital e-book.
This ARABELLA e-Book, KALEIDOSCOPE, Collection I, to be exact, was designed to showcase all these new works and the artists who painted, sculpt, carved, welded, wove, and wired with audacious delight.
In 1816, Scotsman Dr. David Brewster was the first to arrange mirrors and objects in a tube and call it a kaleidoscope. Not just a toy, the device also was intended for use by designers and artists, who might be inspired by the beautiful patterns they could create. Brewster patented his invention in 1817.
A kaleidoscope uses light and mirrors to reflect objects and create beautiful, fascinating repeating patterns. There are many different types of kaleidoscopes that create different patterns, but all use the same basic laws of physics, manipulating light and reflection.
The various colors and forms in a kaleidoscope can symbolize your escape in time of difficulty and self-doubt. A kaleidoscope constantly generates changing symmetrical patterns from small pieces of colored glass, and therefore a kaleidoscope symbolizes anything that changes constantly.
In these times of great difficulty, ARABELLA offers our Kaleidoscope specialty publication as an opportunity to escape into a world of beauty and artistic inspiration. It’s a time to reflect and discover what touches us most.
We produced this digital e-Book so that a link could be sent all over – quite frankly to anyone in the world. Not sure about the space satellites but that is a thought. They must need some beauty on a dreary work shift when they are just monitoring information. We have quite a selection of artists for you to enjoy and as this is our first digital e-Book we would love to have your feedback. For those artists who missed this one come the fall we will be putting together another one so hang on. There is no rhyme or reason to who is in this book – really just whoever put up their hand first and wanted to join in on this new adventure. We appreciate their support and inclusion. It is arranged “alphabetically” but also like a huge gallery show – so that the reader has some fun along the way. There is for those looking for a particular artist – a table of contents at the front in alphabetical order to make sure you don’t miss your favourites.
Take your time – enjoy and together we will sit under the flowering crab-apple tree, have our late afternoon cappuccino, while the sun gently kisses our cheek and see at last some art.
